About Travis S Burt

I was born in Ogden, UT and grew up in both Utah and Vermont. Gaining a better perspective on the world spending my winters in UT with my mother and summers with my dad in VT. I spent allot of time in the mountains, learning to ski when I was five and loving it. I also enjoyed hiking through the mountains on both coast. I was still somewhat of a nerd, playing with my computer and my friends at role playing games.

After graduating from high school, I decided to go to the Utah School of Massage Therapy. In school I specialized in Deep Tissue Massage, Russian Sports Massage and Cranial-Sacral Therapy while picking up other modes of massage as well. After graduating from massage therapy school I worked in destination spas, gyms, resorts, chiropractors offices and out-call massage. Constantly learning, I refined my massage techniques to become the massage therapist I am today.

These three modalities, Deep Tissue Massage, Russian Sports Massage and Cranial-Sacral Therapy called to me and I have always practiced them since. I also found Tai Chi Chaun while I was at massage school and have practiced Tai Chi with four different teachers in the past 14 years, finally coming to teach Tai Chi in an effort to help teach my clients how to heal themselves and increase the effects of my massage.

While massage is a great tool to bring about healing to sore and injured muscles, I have found the more you do on your own the more effective the massage. If you get massage regularly but don't do any exercise or stretching on your own, bad posture and old injuries can diminish the overall effectiveness of massage. Tai Chi seems the best method to me as it helps to retrain the body and stop those bad posture habits we have picked up throughout our lives. While preferring Tai Chi, I feel that anyone looking to heal should take some type of class that focuses on stretching and meditation. After all, a massage is only an hour or two, while you have spent your whole life developing the problems that are causing you pain. We also live in a society that preaches not to feel pain. We are encouraged to push through the pain, or to take pain meds to hide the pain, or use the drugs we self medicate with. I have come to believe my core mission is to teach people how to feel again, you have to feel it to heal it, and Los Angeles Therapeutic is all about putting you back into your body and learning to feel again and heal. Do not stop your prescribed medication, I am not saying that. However, just using medication buries the pain and does not treat your symptoms and while that can help, you need to also address the problem directly with massage, stretching, working out and meditation. The more tools you use to heal, the better the results you will achieve.

I currently work in LA as an out-call massage therapist and have a space for on-site massage at Forme Salon in Santa Monica.
